Not-For-Profit and Public Sector Literacy

The need for financial literacy at the board and senior management level of not-for-profits is more important than ever. The sector has experienced a period of rapid change accompanied by mounting challenges. With a call for increased transparency and accountability as well as the need to improve existing financial reporting models, board directors and executives of not-for-profit and public sector organizations are required to pay more attention to financial statements, cash flows and financial performance in order to provide better information to stakeholders.
This one-day workshop is designed to address the unique circumstances and challenges of the not-for-profit sector. You will be equipped with the knowledge to bolster the financial capacity of not-for-profits, improve decision making and provide better support to your organization. Over the course of the day, you’ll explore
topics such as:

  • Financial reporting
  • Budget analysis
  • Managerial accounting tools
  • Performance evaluation tools
  • Products and services costing

Who Should Attend
This workshop is ideal for individuals who want to gain a deeper understanding of financial literacy in the not-for-profit and public sectors.
Pre-requisite for this program include*:

  • Completion of KBS Financial Literacy Program or KBS Finance and Accounting for the Non-financial Manager Program or a similar program from another executive education provider.

This program is designed for participants who can read and understand the following:

  • Balance sheet
  • Income statement
  • Cash flow statement
  • Statement of equity

Schedule

The workshop will give you a guided tour of a non-for-profit financial report and will show you how the numbers interact and what they mean. You’ll be exposed to reading, analysing and using budgets in the strategic decision making process. In addition, through a comprehensive case study, you will do activity-based costing in the not-for-profit context and you’ll be provided with managerial accounting tools you’ll be able to apply in your workplace the very next day.
