Overview
The challenge has shifted from collecting and analysing data, to sifting through the massive amounts of data analysis produced and extracting the right insights at the right time for the right decisions.
We are in the throes of a big data revolution. Obtaining data is easy; understanding its potential and putting it to work for an organization is a bigger challenge. Executives and senior leaders use data every day to describe current scenarios within their organizations and to predict future ones. But big data also gives organizations opportunities to identify problems earlier and react more quickly and more effectively. The real value of the data revolution comes into play when data and analytics are deeply integrated in an organization’s decision-making processes.
Knights Business School, Leading a Data-driven Organization Workshop is designed for senior managers and executives who want to take their data strategy to the next level. Participants will learn how to advance from simply using data to describe current and predict future scenarios, to really leveraging data to prescribe solutions and improve business performance.
The workshop emphasizes the importance of linking functional teams to analytics teams and the critical role played by those who are responsible for building and nurturing those links. Participants will begin the day by tackling the business case for different types of data analytics hands-on. They will discuss the internal organizational changes that are required to effectively integrate data into decision-making and build a truly data-driven organization.

Schedule
The workshop is designed to help senior managers and executives recognize the opportunities and challenges in building a data-driven organization. It is divided into three modules incorporating case studies, group work and discussion:
Module 1 – The Data Imperative:
Reduced costs of storing and processing data, and an increase in the amount of economic and social activity that is carried out digitally, mean that organizations have access to more data than ever before. This module will help participants understand the opportunities presented by an ever growing volume of data and the challenges associated with exploiting these opportunities in practice. Exploring how companies currently use data will elicit strategies for companies to use data going forward. The instructors will emphasize the importance of moving beyond using data to understand “what happened” or “what will happen” to using data to understand “why things are happening” and “what should be done about them”.
Module 2 – Using Data:
This module will expose participants to a variety of different data analysis tools, emphasizing the business case for each. Rather than focusing on technical details, the discussion will look at the types of insight that can be extracted from the different tools and how they can be utilized.
Module 3 – The Data-Driven Organization:
This module will illustrate why it is critical to integrate analytics functions/roles into the broader organizational structure and will highlight the small steps and larger changes that are needed to build a truly data-driven organization. Participants will discuss the importance of regular and open communication between managers and analysts, and the need for data literacy at all levels of the organization.
